- Here is a HowTo for CyberDuck – a free FTP client for OS X and Windows.

  1. Start by downloading CyberDuck. (Or Filezilla or WinSCP.) Once it’s installed, launch it from your Applications.

  2. Click the Open Connection button.

    Click open connection button

  3. Enter the Server name in the space provided. The server name for our class is "playbx.org". The default Port for FTP is 21, so leave that setting. Now enter your Username and Password in the spaces provided. Uncheck the "anonymous Login" box. The "Add to keychain" box is up to you. It doesn't hurt to leave it unchecked. It just determines whether your machine "remembers" your login credentials. Make it unchecked if you are using Cyberduck on a public (e.g. MassArt) machine. When all of that information is in place, click the Connect button.

    Enter login information

  4. You will get a warning that you are making an unencrypted connection. Just ignore that warning and continue connecting. The window may be blank or empty if you’ve never uploaded any files or folders.

  5. To upload files, locate them in your Finder (like, possibly in a folder called something like "MyWebsite" on the Desktop), select the ones you want to upload, and then drag them to the main CyberDuck window.

    Drag file icon to folder.
  6. Once the upload has completed, the window will refresh and your files will be listed.
  7. To delete a file or folder, right-click it and select Delete from the pop-up menu. You can also rename files this way (select Rename…) etc.

  8. To create a new folder, right-click (ctrl-click for single-button mouse folks) in the main CyberDuck window and select New Folder…

  9. Enter a name for the folder, and click Create.

  10. CyberDuck will then create the folder. Double-click the folder name to ‘enter’ that folder.

  11. If you want to save the FTP server information (so you don’t have to enter it every time you want to connect to it) – click the Bookmarks button.

  12. From the Bookmarks pane, click the small + (plus sign) at the bottom.

  13. And the FTP site will be saved to your CyberDuck bookmarks.

That should be it. If there is some problem, make a note of any error messages and email Dana.
Happy uploading!
